Periodontics

Periodontal disease continues to be a serious and increasing concern. Research has shown that around 15% of British adults suffer from a severe form of the disease, and the last Adult Health Dental Survey (1998) reported that although levels of tooth decay were falling due to good preventive measures, periodontal disease was rising in frequency, particularly among people over 45 years old.

Apart from the obvious pain and misery suffered by patients with periodontal disease, there have also been links demonstrated between periodontitis and life-threatening conditions such as heart disease and premature birth.

It is the most common cause of tooth loss in adults and it is under-diagnosed. Furthermore, in recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of patients seeking legal compensation against GDPs for failure to diagnose and effectively treat periodontal disease.

Periodontal specialists are able to offer procedures that are generally outside the scope of most GDPs. At Redcliffe Dental Practice our periodontist has years of experience in dealing with particularly challenging cases.
