| Prosthodontics
is the art of restoring your mouth as comprehensively
as possible, making it easier for you to eat and
talk without problems, making your smile look good
and also helping you to keep your teeth for as long
as possible.
While all dentists are trained to carry out restorative
dentistry, a prosthodontist has carried out several
years of additional full time study to become
a registered specialist in their field.
This means they will usually treat the more difficult
complex dental issues, such as cases where there
are missing teeth or where there are significant
problems in functionality or looks.
A prosthodontist can carry out implants (see
right), and has specialist expertise in the full
range of restorative procedures, from crowns,
bridges and dentures to major reconstruction following
accidents or oral cancer.
If you have been referred to our prosthodontist,
it is because your dentist feels you should receive
specialist care for your teeth – it is a
little like your GP referring you to a specialist
for a medical condition.
While the thought of needing specialist dental
care may seem a little daunting, it is worth bearing
in mind that in coming to us, you are being treated
by one of the country’s top experts and
getting the best care possible for your specific
dental problems. |
